Breaking News! Home of the King of Medicine Teaming Up with Paris, France — Sun Simiao Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Opens a New

On July 13, Jean-Yves Moisseron, President of the International Academy of Food and Phytomedicine Homology (IAFPH), led a delegation to visit Sun Simiao Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The two parties officially signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement to jointly build a collaborative innovation platform for "Food Is Medicine" based in the Home of the King of Medicine and connecting France, China, and Africa. This cooperation marks another significant step in implementing the national strategy to promote Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) global reach, opening a new channel for bringing the TCM culture of Sun Simiao, the King of Medicine, to the world stage.

President Jean-Yves Moisseron and his delegation conducted an on-site tour of the hospital’s Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, Rehabilitation Medicine Center, Famous TCM Doctors’ Hall, Training Base for TCM Technical Professionals, as well as its R&D and application facilities for hospital-made TCM preparations.

During the visit, the delegation spoke highly of the hospital’s achievements in simultaneous heart-and-brain treatment, specialized TCM rehabilitation services, the academic heritage of renowned TCM masters, talent cultivation system development, and the R&D of in-hospital preparations. They also highly praised the hospital’s distinctive development path in carrying forward the academic legacy of Sun Simiao and advancing the modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the signing and discussion meeting, Liao Bin, Party Secretary of the hospital, expressed in his speech that Tongchuan is the hometown of Sun Simiao. More than 1,400 years ago, Sun Simiao proposed the concepts of "Medicine and Food Homology (Food Is Medicine)" and "Preventive Treatment of Diseases" (Zhi Wei Bing), setting a benchmark for dietary regimen and health preservation. This cooperation reinterprets this ancient heritage with an international perspective and tells the story of TCM in the language of modern science, allowing the "Medicine and Food Homology (Food Is Medicine)" philosophy to gain new vitality on the world stage.

Liu Jialin, President of the hospital, presented a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s discipline construction, clinical diagnosis and treatment, as well as scientific research and teaching. Secretary Wang Tianyi introduced IAFPH’s international scientific research platform, R&D achievements, and overseas cooperation resources. Both sides held in-depth discussions and reached multiple consensuses on key topics, including medicinal plant R&D, the development of medicinal and edible products, international academic exchanges, joint talent cultivation, and co-construction of laboratories. Witnessed by all attendees, President Jean-Yves Moisseron and President Liu Jialin signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement on behalf of both parties.

In his speech, President Jean-Yves Moisseron stated that Sun Simiao Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is rooted in the Home of the King of Medicine, possessing deep expertise in TCM clinical care, authentic medicinal herb (Daodi herbs) research, and the translation of famous classical formulas into preparations. As a multilateral scientific research platform connecting China, France, and Africa, IAFPH has extensive experience in integrating international resources and building cross-regional cooperation networks. With their respective strengths and complementary advantages, this joint effort will surely inject fresh vitality into the global development of the "Medicine and Food Homology (Food Is Medicine)" concept and set an exemplary model for deep cooperation among France, China, and Africa in the field of traditional medicine.

This signing ceremony represents a vital measure by Sun Simiao Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine to align with the national strategy for revitalizing TCM and advancing its global reach. It marks the official entry of Sun Simiao’s millennial wisdom—namely "Medicine and Food Homology (Food Is Medicine)" and "Preventive Treatment of Diseases" (Zhi Wei Bing)—into IAFPH’s global multilateral cooperation network.

Moving forward, both sides will conduct joint research on the functional substance foundation and product safety evaluation of Tongchuan's authentic medicinal herbs (Daodi herbs), establish exchange mechanisms for young scholars and visiting clinical physicians, and leverage platforms such as the Paris Center for Traditional Medicine Culture to promote the international dissemination of TCM culture.

Through pragmatic cooperation, the two parties will jointly explore new pathways and models for TCM internationalization, helping Sun Simiao's TCM culture go global. This effort aims to allow the King of Medicine's ancient medical wisdom to cross borders and benefit humanity, contributing "Tongchuan Strength" and "TCM Solutions" toward building a global community of health for all.
