Shuying Feng

Professor, Henan University of Chinese Medicine | Doctoral Supervisor | Postdoctoral Co-supervisor | Doctor of Medicine
Professor Shuying Feng is an internationally renowned expert in foods for special medical purposes, a biotechnology scientist, and a leading figure in industrial translation. He currently serves as President of the Henan Institute of Foods for Special Medical Purposes and Director of the Henan Engineering Research Center for Foods for Special Medical Purposes in Traditional Chinese Medicine. As an outstanding scholar deeply engaged at the interdisciplinary frontier of medicine-food homology, functional foods, and synthetic biology, he also serves as Deputy Director of the Henan Engineering Research Center for Medicine-Food Homology Chinese Medicine Technology, and has been selected as a “Zhongjing Backbone Scholar” of Henan University of Chinese Medicine. Professor Feng has long been committed to breaking down the barriers between traditional laboratory research and the modern global health industry. He has made landmark contributions to the cultivation of high-level doctoral and postdoctoral talent, the translation of major national scientific achievements, and interdisciplinary engineering innovation, and is recognized as a core strategic expert driving the standardization and international development of China’s foods for special medical purposes and medicine-food homology industries.

As an industry pioneer integrating frontier bioengineering with modern health needs, Professor Feng’s research focuses on four core strategic areas: the development and utilization of novel live expression systems based on Dunaliella salina; the creation of foods for special medical purposes and functional foods; enhancement studies on the nanonization of Chinese medicines and probiotic fermentation technologies; and the medical translation of bee products. Drawing on advanced gene-editing technologies such as CRISPR, he has prospectively constructed a novel green expression matrix based on Dunaliella salina for the efficient preparation of recombinant viral subunit vaccines, antibody drugs, and monomeric compounds derived from Chinese medicines. At the same time, targeting modern chronic metabolic diseases such as hyperglycemia, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperuricemia, as well as autoimmune diseases and specific functional needs, he has led the development of multi-target foods for special medical purposes and functional formulas covering alcohol detoxification and liver protection, sleep regulation, and immune enhancement. By organically integrating nanocarrier technology, microbial fermentation, and traditional natural bee products, including bee venom, propolis, and royal jelly, Professor Feng has built a research and development ecosystem with strong technical barriers in animal pharmaceuticals, biomedicine, and high-end nutrition.

With decades of dedication to scientific research and industrial translation, Professor Feng has demonstrated outstanding international-level strength in academic output and commercialization of research achievements. Over the years, he has led and completed four national research projects, eight major provincial science and technology projects, and 23 enterprise-commissioned collaborative research projects, with cumulative research and translational funding exceeding RMB 30 million. In academic publishing, he has published more than 100 papers in major international and domestic journals, including more than 80 papers indexed by SCI journals and over 30 papers in authoritative Chinese core journals. He has also served as editor-in-chief or associate editor of 12 national planned textbooks and academic monographs. As a highly accomplished inventor, he has filed 32 national invention patents, among which 20 patent-based products with strong market competitiveness have successfully undergone technological translation and entered the international market. He has received 15 science and technology achievement appraisal recognitions and science and technology awards at various levels, continuously leading innovation in the global medicine-food homology and foods for special medical purposes industries.
