Dr. Suhui Wu is an internationally recognized expert in Chinese pharmacology, a clinical translational scientist, and an outstanding university mentor. She currently serves as Deputy Director of the Henan Zhongjing Prescriptions and Health Aging Industry Engineering Research Center. She received her PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and her rigorous training at a leading national research institution has provided her with a strong foundation in cutting-edge modern molecular biology and natural medicinal chemistry. As a young scholar active at the forefront of the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine and the health aging industry, Dr. Wu also serves as a member of the Chinese Pharmacological Society and a committee member of the Hospital Pharmacy Branch of the China Association of Chinese Medicine. She has also been invited to serve as an expert for production licensing inspections of food and health food products in Henan Province. In authoritative academic peer review, she has long served as a reviewer for national core journals such as Pharmacology and Clinics of Chinese Materia Medica and Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research, playing an important bridging role in promoting the industrial engineering translation and scientific validation of traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions.
As an interdisciplinary pioneer focusing on cellular metabolism, neurodegenerative diseases, and natural product discovery, Dr. Wu’s research is centered on two core pillars: the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, with traditional Chinese medicine; and the discovery, mechanistic investigation, and pharmacodynamic and toxicological evaluation of innovative Chinese medicine candidates. Relying on internationally advanced molecular target screening technologies, she has in recent years led and efficiently completed several landmark studies in botanical pharmacology. Her work has systematically decoded the modern molecular mechanisms underlying the traditional “body-lightening and longevity-promoting” effects of Cassiae Semen and Cannabis Fructus, the quality evaluation and key glucose-lowering pathways of Forsythiae Fructus, and the refined material basis and neuroprotective matrix of the “fluid-generating and intelligence-enhancing” effects of ginseng. By deeply integrating the holistic perspective of traditional Zhongjing prescriptions with modern precision medicine, Dr. Wu has provided innovative pharmacological theoretical foundations of strong clinical translational value for addressing cognitive impairment and metabolic disorders associated with global population aging.
With many years of dedication to Chinese pharmacology and major disease intervention, Dr. Wu has achieved outstanding accomplishments in academic publication, project leadership, and the cultivation of young scientific innovation. As principal investigator, she has led one project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and three major provincial and departmental research projects, and has participated as a core research member in five major national research programs. Over the years, she has published more than 30 high-quality papers in leading and mainstream journals in China and abroad, including Journal of Experimental Biology, Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine, Pharmaceutical Biology, and Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs. She has been granted four national invention patents and has contributed to several national planned textbooks and academic monographs. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to innovation in natural medicinal science, she has received numerous honors, including the Third Prize of the Henan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, two First Prizes and one Second Prize for departmental-level scientific and technological achievements, and the Second Prize for Excellent Natural Science Papers of Henan Province. In addition, as a passionate educator, she has personally led and supervised student innovation and entrepreneurship teams, which have won several major honors, including a national silver award in top national science and technology competitions such as “Internet+,” the “Challenge Cup,” and “Creating Youth.”
